呼唤分布式互联网的到来:吴建刚博士北美巡回演讲4

上个周末在多伦多大学“hack the valley”(黑客马拉松)的开幕式上,来自上海的吴建刚博士的演讲引起了现场热烈反应,主办方由此邀请吴博士在多大另开了一场专门关于区块链技术的讲座。

多伦多大学是全球排名前20的名校。多大的黑客马拉松“hack the valley“已经是第三届了。该次活动,受到Google、Red Bull、Wolfram、Rogers、Hackerearth等大型机构的支持,来自全球各地的数百名极客程序员在为期三天的奋战中决出胜负。

据吴博士的介绍,这次演讲的目的启发这些未来的新星,让他们领悟到整个编程的世界P2P编程正在崛起,世界正在从中心化的C/S、B/S模式向P2P模式演化。吴博士激励参加黑客马拉松的程序员向对等网络的世界进发,因为在客户流量和数据被大型互联网平台垄断的中心化网络环境里,分布式系统才是创业家的乐园。

吴博士呼吁参加“hack the valley“的程序员以及全世界的程序员拥抱分布式互联网并且抓住可能出现的大量机会。

吴博士还分享了自己区块链行业的经历。吴博士从2013年翻译一本加密货币的书之后就迷上了区块链。此后,他不仅在上海大学从事区块链研究,还作为中欧国际工商学院研究员为政府和机构提供区块链有关的智囊支持。从2017年开始,吴博士开始区块链创业,已经作为联合创始人成功落地了一个公有链,而目前发起并专注推进的是名为“Contatract“(交子链)的功能完备的公有链。

据吴博士介绍,Contatract的基础是一块由分布式节点提供的可读写的世界硬盘,它不仅是一个分布式的云、分布式的数据库,还为开发者提供了开发分布式系统和分布式通讯的基础。

THE SOCIETY BACKGROUND

Charles Dickens had ever said: it was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

For programmers, it is the best of times, people are spending more time in the cloud. Almost everything in our lives has to do with the Internet or AI. Data are everything and algorithms are reigning the world. The world belongs to programmers. Living in such a great era, we should be grateful.

But it is also the worst of times, data are controlled by few Internet platforms. Huge platforms such as Google, Alibaba, Facebook, Tencent, and Amazon, hold sway over the world of Internet. Programmers become more and more difficult to start any business.

For the perspective of society, this is the best of times. Most people have plenty of food, and enjoy all kinds of financial services. But for many people, it is the worst of times, they don’t have enough food and there are more than 2 billion people who don’t have bank accounts.

This is the best of times, most people have been living in peace since the Second World War, but this is the worst of time, the nuclear weapons are just like the sword of Damocles that can chop off the civilization of humankind at any time.

The conflicts between individuals, organizations and countries exist almost in everywhere. In many countries, cooperation between people are extremely costly and cross-country cooperations are always difficult.

Cannot human beings stay together in peace?

Just as Bertrand Russell had ever said in his prologue of autobiography:

Children in famine, victims tortured by oppressors, helpless old people a hated burden to their sons, and the whole world of loneliness, poverty, and pain make a mockery of what human life should be. I long to alleviate the evil, but I cannot, and I too suffer.

It seems that it is the time of darkness, but blockchain gives us hope.

It is the times of hope too.

Blockchain as a distributed bookkeeping technology has such a power in rearranging the organization of the world.

For the first time, blockchain technology makes the cooperative relationship between strangers become programmable and autonomous. People don’t need to fight each other, what they need is to do is to choose blockchain systems and cooperate with each other by smart contract, which is code, and code is law.

MY BACKGROUND

My name is Jiangang Wu. A college teacher of the Shanghai University, a founder of two public chains, a programmer and a blockchain believer.

I learned about blockchain in 2013, when I was translating a book about cryptocurrency. After I read the whitepaper of bitcoin, I couldn’t stop learn more about blockchain.

My new institutional economics background and programming background tell me that blockchain is the future of social cooperations.

Last February our project of a public chain raised about 70 thousand ETH, worth 50 million US dollars at that time.

Last June, I started another public chain named Contatrcat, which aims to make people’s contact and contract easier.

Contatract focus on distributed cloud service whose storage space is provided by anyone and anyone can be its users.

With contatract, we can build not only distributed Dropbox, distributed Email, but any distributed applications, because it is a new generation of public chain. It updates the second generation public chain—the Turing-complete blockchain to the third generation of blockchain—the function-complete chain, because it has not only distributed storage, but distributed communication. What’s more, it has unlimited scalability of transaction, because its consensus realized data sharding.

BLOCKCHAIN

So what is blockchain? It is a distributed bookkeeping technology that can make resources providers and users cooperate with each other without big centralized organizations. By providing peer to peer network, strangers can sell and buy products, data, or services across the world.

BLOCKCHAIN INDUSTRY

Since 2009, ten years have been passed. Blockchain has become a complete industry. And it has ups and it has downs.

In 2017, the total capital cap of cryptocurrencies for several hundred coins was about 17 billion US dollars, but in the end of 2017 the capital cap raised to 460 billion US dollars.

Unfortunately, there were full of bubbles, which made a panic bear market for the second half year of 2018.

The FUTURE OF BLOCKCHAIN INDUSTRY

However, something new is happening soundlessly. The third generation of blockchain will be a function-complete blockchain, which will not only help killer DApp launch but also help create the infrastructure of the new generation of Internet—the Distributed Internet.

The function-complete blockchain is the real Blockchain 3.0 system, which has a distributed storage, distributed community and unlimited scalable transaction. With these functions and developer’s tools, it will be easy to build distributed applications.

However, the function-complete blockchain is also the infrastructure of the distributed Internet, in which data belong to creators, privacy will be well protected, fiats are just part of the currencies, and people can trade with each other without intermediary agents.

CONCLUSION

To sum up, the blockchain’s spring may soon come and will bring profound chances to the world. Our programmers should embrace the distributed Internet and be well prepared for the opportunities it may provide.
